The two things you need: visa and SGAC

Indian passport holders are not visa-exempt for Singapore. Before you can board your flight, you need a valid Singapore visa stamped or e-issued. Then, separately, before you arrive, you need to file the Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC) with Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority.

Both are mandatory. Skip the visa and you don't board the flight. Skip the SGAC and you board but get turned back at Changi immigration. The visa is permission to enter Singapore. The SGAC is the pre-arrival declaration that lets ICA pre-process your details and speed you through the border. Confused about the two? See SGAC vs visa for a side-by-side comparison.

File your SGAC

Step-by-step: from booking to boarding

  1. Book your trip

Confirm your flight to Singapore and your accommodation. You'll need both for the visa application, so do this first.

  2. Apply for your Singapore visa via VFS Global India

Submit your visa application through your nearest VFS Global India centre with all required documents. During peak seasons (Diwali, Christmas, May to July school holidays), apply 4 to 6 weeks before travel to be safe.

  3. Receive your visa approval

Standard processing is 3 to 5 business days. The approval comes as an e-visa to the email you provided. Print a copy or keep it on your phone.

  4. File your SGAC

Within 72 hours of your arrival date, file the Singapore Arrival Card. You'll need your visa reference number and passport details that match the visa exactly.

  5. Receive your SGAC approval by email

Usually within hours. Carry it on your phone alongside your visa. No printing needed.

  6. Travel to Singapore

At Changi immigration, present your passport. Your visa and SGAC are already on file with ICA, they look you up by passport number.

Singapore visa for Indian travellers

Indian passport holders cannot apply for a Singapore visa directly with the Singapore High Commission. All visa applications go through ICA's Authorized Visa Agents (AVAs), the largest of which is VFS Global India. Here's what you need to know.

Visa types

Two main types cover most leisure and short-term business travel:

  • Single-entry tourist visa for one entry, stays up to 30 days. The default for first-time visitors.
  • Multi-entry visit visa for multiple entries within the validity period (typically 1 or 2 years). Usually issued to applicants with a clean travel history or family ties to Singapore.

Documents needed

  • Original passport with at least 6 months validity from your date of arrival in Singapore
  • One recent passport-size photograph (white background, per VFS specifications)
  • Completed visa application form
  • Confirmed return air ticket
  • Confirmed Singapore accommodation booking (hotel or host address)
  • Bank statement for the last 3 months (financial proof)
  • For employed applicants: employer letter or recent pay slips
  • For business travellers: invitation letter from the Singapore host company

Processing time

Standard processing is 3 to 5 business days for tourist visas. Apply 4 to 6 weeks before travel during peak seasons (Diwali, Christmas, summer holidays from May to July) to avoid delays. Last-minute submissions during peak seasons sometimes don't get processed in time.

Fees

Visa fees and VFS Global service fees change. Always check current rates at VFS Global India directly. The fee is paid in INR at the application centre.

Common documentation issues

Things that delay or reject visa applications. Most are fixable before submission:

  • Name on passport doesn't match the visa application form (initials vs full names is the most common issue)
  • Passport validity less than 6 months from your arrival date in Singapore
  • Bank statement showing insufficient funds for the trip duration
  • Return ticket not yet booked at the time of application
  • Singapore accommodation not yet confirmed
  • Photograph doesn't meet VFS specifications (background, dimensions, recency)
  • Old passport not submitted along with the new one (if recently renewed)

Filing the Singapore Arrival Card

Once your Singapore visa is approved, the SGAC is the second mandatory step. The SGAC is a pre-arrival declaration that tells Singapore ICA who you are, when you're arriving, and where you're staying. It's separate from the visa and has its own 72 hour window.

What you need

  • Your Singapore visa reference number (from the e-visa email)
  • Your passport details, exactly as they appear on the visa
  • Confirmed flight number and arrival date
  • Confirmed Singapore accommodation address (hotel name and address, or host's address)
  • Email address where the SGAC approval should be sent

See required documents for the full list before you apply.

When to file

File the SGAC up to 72 hours before your arrival date in Singapore, not earlier. Earlier submissions are rejected by ICA. The 72 hour window starts from your arrival date, so if you arrive on the 15th, you can file from the 12th onward.

If you're applying through SGAC Online, you can submit your details to us anytime. We'll hold the application and file it inside the 72 hour window automatically. Read when to submit for the full window rules.

What we do for you

Our team checks every form for the common mistakes that delay or reject SGAC submissions: passport spelling that doesn't match the visa, accommodation address that's incomplete, dates that don't align with the flight booking. We file the corrected form with ICA and email you the official approval. See how it works if you'd rather we handle the form for you.

What if your visa is delayed

If your visa is approved late and you're now inside the 72 hour SGAC window, file the SGAC immediately. Approval is usually within hours, sometimes faster on weekdays. If your flight is the next day and you don't have your SGAC by the time you head to the airport, contact us, we can flag your application as urgent.

Why choose SGAC Online

Catches the mistakes that get applications rejected

Indian passport names with initials, multi-part surnames, and middle names cause more rejection issues than any other single problem. We check every name field against your visa before submission.

Group submissions for families

Filing for a family of 4 visiting Singapore together? One submission, one transaction, group discount applied automatically (15% off for 2-5 travellers, 20% off for 6-10).

Real human review before submission

Every application is checked by a human before it goes to ICA. Catches the typos and mismatches an automated form would let through.

Email support that responds in your timezone

Reply to your receipt email and a real person responds, usually within a few hours during Indian business hours (Singapore is IST +2:30).

Three minutes per traveller. USD 30 per application. Group discounts apply.
